Every year, an International Viola Congress is organized, by one of the viola societies existing in the world, coordinated by the International Viola Society.
Every year, the congress is held in a different place, alternating between the sides of the planet: once in Europe and once on the other side of the ocean (although not always).
A viola congress is a unique opportunity to meet many other viola players, attend lectures about viola repertoire, workshops, masterclasses and concerts by some of the greatest viola players in the world, including my favourite, Michael Kugel.
I attended a congress when it was held in Glasgow, the city where William Primrose was born.
The International Viola Congress this year will be hosted, from 4th to 8th October 2016, in the city where the viola and other string instruments were created: Cremona, in Italy, which is also a beautiful city. I think this will add a special touch to it. If you are not sure you know much about the history of the viola, read here.
The congress is organized by the Associazione Italiana della Viola, the italian chapter of the International Viola Society that coordinates the various viola organizations in different countries.
This year, on 5th October, I will be there to give a presentation workshop titled, "You learn from your mistakes - A New Approach to the viola", about the Havas New Approach, in relation to the viola. It will be from 9 to 10 in Via Baldesio 10, 26100 Cremona, Italy.
