Everything you always wanted to know about the viola and never dared to ask

Here you are! As long as you are a music lover, viola player or not, you'll find something for you.

Here you'll find unusual and curious information about many composers and their relationship (actually, many times it was a love affair) with the beautifully mellow toned instrument which is the viola. Who played it, what they wrote, their lives.

I'll give you the chance to taste bits of these works, here you'll find some free music to download, to listen or to print, or just view.

You'll see pictures of composers and musicians, stories from their lives, to get to know them, to make friends with them and have some fun!

Maybe you had the same experience I had. Many times I found myself looking for viola music, CDs, sheet music and books, information about famous viola players, what composers had written.

Initially, I didn't know who had written what for viola, so I didn't even know what to look for.

After some hard research I was able to find a lot of information, lists of compositions, although they were still very mysterious to me because I couldn't see or hear them in any shop. But then when I wanted to buy one to hear how it sounded and maybe to learn to play it, I was completely lost.

"Where do I find it? How long will it take to get it?" Ok, that was mainly before the Internet era, now it's much easier but still you first have to know what to aim at.

Or, if you are a music lover but not a viola player, maybe you didn't even bother searching for viola music because "there aren't any solo pieces for viola, are there?"

There are, indeed! But it's like a big puzzle. You have to take all the pieces and put them together, often without having the picture in front of you.

Now, I'll be happy to help you to solve both problems: I'll help you to discover this little known world: stories about who wrote music for or with viola, who played it and loved it, and where to find it.

Also, for more fun, you'll find some useful and unusual items all related to the viola. In one word, I'd like you to really enjoy this visit, your perhaps new experience with this wonderful musical instrument, enjoy gorgeous music and yourself.

I'm adding more and more pages, so come and visit again!
